Food Lust fundraiser or free Willie Green’s open house

Published 11:14 am Friday, May 13, 2011

Food Lust is coming to Snohomish County for the second year in a row.

The sixth-annual feast, gala and fundraiser for the Seattle-based Cascade Harvest Coalition will be from 5 to 10 p.m.

June 4 at The Fields at Willie Green’s Organic Farm, 19501 Tualco Road, Monroe, an outdoor venue for special events.

Washington wine and beer will be served with appetizers during a silent auction starting 5 p.m., followed by a local-food feast prepared by local restaurant chefs at 6:45 p.m. in a decorated greenhouse.

Things will get really exciting at 7:30 p.m., when a live auction and the annual Dessert Dash fundraiser begin with a new auctioneer, Jason “JT” Haynes also known as “The Mouth of the South,” who lives locally but who has Kentucky and Alabama connections.

“It’s a very spirited event,” said coalition spokeswoman Sheryl Wiser. “You are at a benefit, but you’re also at a party.”

Food Lust, which is for age 21 and older, concludes with a gathering at the farm fire pit where fixins for s’mores will be served.

This year, New Forge, a Port Townsend band, will provide live, fresh takes on bluegrass, blues, funk and rock.

Guests are welcome to stroll the 50-acre working Willie Green’s farm and landscaped grounds.

Proceeds will benefit the coalition’s mission of sustaining local food systems for a healthy environment and community.

Participating restaurants, all based in King County, include the Copperleaf Restaurant at Cedarbrook Lodge, Herban Feast, emmer & rye, Taste at SAM, Cupcake Royale, Molly Moons Homemade Ice Cream, Blackboard Bistro and Hot Cakes, among others.

Tickets are $85 at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/169491. Dress is down-on-the-farm formal.

Call 206-632-0606 or see www.cascadeharvest.org for more information.

Bonus: If you’d like to see the farm’s event venue, but don’t want to attend the fundraiser, you’re in luck.

The Fields at Willie Green’s, the very next day, is hosting a free open house from 1 to 4 p.m. June 5 with music by Puget Sound DJ, event styling by Chad Burnworth, the creative director of Herban Design Studio, and a sampling of picnic-on-the-farm menus, including a pig roast by executive chef Dalis Chea of Herban Feast and Fresh Bistro of Seattle.

Though the event is free, RSVPs are requested by May 24. Write marketfresh@herbanfeast.com or call 206-932-4717. See www.williegreens.org for more information.
