Front Porch: Shutdown or no, Passport Day in Monroe is canceled

No Passport Day

The city of Monroe canceled today’s planned “Passport Day in the USA 2011.”

In Front Porch on Friday, the event was announced, but because of the potential shutdown of government services, it was called off.

We’ve been reading this week about how the government potentially closing shop could affect each of us.

There we go.

PUD offers earthy events: Snohomish County Public Utility District has planned events for Earth Day, April 22, to show how to reduce your environmental impact, use energy more responsibly and save money.

Learn what the PUD is doing in the areas of green energy, conservation and environmental stewardship.

The free event will feature:

A light bulb exchange — turn in your incandescent bulbs for free compact fluorescent light bulbs and LED night lights (while supplies last, limit of five bulbs);

A plant sale featuring flowers and plants grown locally by high school students;

Energy-related games, including Time to Play bingo;

A chance to see the PUD’s new hybrid service truck;

PUD videos;

Booths featuring PUD programs, including conservation efforts.

Information about green energy sources as part of the utility’s Integrated Resource Plan.

It’s planned from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 22 at Snohomish County PUD, 2320 California St. in Everett.
