Marysvilles public works staff spot-on in safety

Easy does it.
Workers with the city of Marysville recently received training from the Evergreen Safety Council to make sure ladder trucks used in the public works department are properly operated.
They use trucks with a 40-foot maximum reach to work on traffic lights and hang banners. The council offers safety training and consultations around the Northwest.
Nancy Abel, risk manager for Marysville, requested training for employees who operate the city’s Terex Highranger equipped “bucket truck.”
The half-day training included the chance for everyone to position the truck and place an object in an elevated location. On day two, all 23 participants set up and operated the truck and lift. They attempted to place a traffic cone on the arched roof of a storage area in the Public Works equipment and materials yard.
The class all earned straight A’s.
“I had numerous participants tell me this was great training, very thorough, and that they all learned something, which isn’t always easy to accomplish when you have seasoned operators,” Abel says.
“I would say that in particular, the hands-on practical demonstration under the instructor’s watchful but encouraging eye made this very effective training.”
