HEADS UP
Having a garage sale?
Garage sale season is slowly wrapping up. If you’re planning to have one, keep in mind that no signs can be posted on utility poles, traffic signs or public structures, nor in a public right of way like a sidewalk.
In Marysville, signs may be displayed no more than three days prior to the sale and must be removed within 24 hours of the sale. Everett has similar rules.
Lynnwood is more stringent. Signs can be placed no more than one day before a sale — and you’re only allowed three of them off your own property. They also must be no bigger than four square feet in area.
In Monroe, your signs must be portable — that means not staking them in the ground. The city could confiscate any signs that break the rules, and you’ll need to pay $25 to get them back.
For more information, look up your city’s municipal code for garage sale rules.
