The local author plans to talk about her new book “Borrowed Ground: A Joe and Lucy Story,” which is the sequel to “How to Make a Pot in 14 Easy Lessons.” While the community gathers to celebrate Joe and Lucy’s marriage, there is one person who refuses to feel the love — their neighbor, Hilda. She is determined to mar their happiness with a vindictive property-line dispute, and soon they find themselves embroiled in a series of ordeals that they must overcome to keep their home. The shop is at 111 Fifth Ave. S.
Eli Sanders
2 p.m. Oct. 7, Everett Public Library
Sanders, who won a Pulitzer Prize for featuring writing in 2012 for his reporting for The Stranger, will talk about his book “While the City Slept: A Love Lost to Violence and a Young Man’s Descent into Madness.” The book chronicles the murder of Teresa Butz, the attack on her partner, Jennifer Hopper, and the unchecked journey into mental illness of their attacker, Isaiah Kalebu. The book is a look at mental health and criminal justice systems, which failed Butz, Hopper and Kalebu with tragic results. The book is a finalist for a Washnington State Book Award. Aileen Langhans
2 p.m. Oct. 22, Everett Public Library
Langhans will present her new book, “Random Facts From the Founding Days of Everett, Washington” in the library’s auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave. in Everett. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. All proceeds from her book go toward framing historic photographs in the Northwest Room of the library. Langhans is a longtime member of Historic Everett, and has been writing the organization’s newsletter for years.
Hillary Rodham Clinton
7:30 p.m. Dec. 11, Paramount Theatre
Clinton will be in Seattle to discuss her new book, “What Happened.” Her most personal memoir yet, the book shares her experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election “marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules.” The theater is at 911 Pine St. in Seattle. Poetry readings
7 p.m. Mondays, Black Lab Gallery, Everett
The gallery offers a poetry reading each Monday evening at 1618 Hewitt Ave. For more information, call 425-512-9476. Also, from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30, the gallery hosts the local “100 Thousand Poets for Change.” The sharing of poems on this day is a global event.
