EDMONDS — The off-leash area and south parking lot at Marina Beach Park will be closed Friday while crews remove a boat, the Hide Away, that washed ashore.

The city has been in contact with the vessel’s owner, but ultimately took temporary possession of the vessel based on criteria granted under state law. About 90 percent of the city’s costs will be covered by the state Department of Natural Resources’ derelict vessel removal fund.

Global Salvage and Diving will remove the vessel, having already removed hazardous materials from the vessel, such as fuel, oil, and fire extinguishers.

The city expects the closure to last until about 2 p.m. The park areas will re-open as soon as it is deemed safe for public use.
