Running Start student to perform with Cascade Symphony

The Cascade Symphony Orchestra concludes its season with a May 7 performance with the theme “Roman Festivals.”
It will showcase the work of 17-year-old pianist Stephen Binondo, a Running Start student at Edmonds Community college.
Binondo will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, the same piece for which he was awarded a concerto gold award in the 2017 Northwest Chopin competition. He performed the piece with Orchestra Seattle.
His interest in piano began when he was a year old, playing on a Lego piano. He began playing the real instrument at age 5.
The piano concerto first caught his attention when he listened to it at a young age. “I very much enjoy playing this piece,” he said.
The symphony also will perform Malcolm Arnold’s “Four Scottish Dances,” Mussorgsky’s “Dance of the Persian Slaves” from Khovanshchina, Scriabin’s “Reverie,” and Respighi’s “Roman Festivals.”

The Cascade Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the season is at 7:30 p.m. May 7 at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N. in Edmonds. The concert will be preceded by a lecture on the evening’s concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $27 for adults, $22 for seniors, $15 for students with identification and $10 for youngsters 12 and younger.
