Cougars at Stream Center
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife scientist Brian Kertson gives an entertaining and informative lecture on cougars, 7 p.m. Thursday at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. For fifth-graders and older. Reservations are required. Cost is $5 Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 non-members, and benefits Streamkeeper Academy.

Manga time at Everett CC
Learn about Japanese art, culture and history at the free Japanese Anime & Manga Arts Festival, Friday and Saturday at Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St. The festival is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The festival is an opportunity to celebrate anime and manga.
This year’s event includes a live demonstration by award-winning artist Yoshimi Kurata, a cosplay competition, a manga swap and a cultural rummage sale.

WAYS TO HELP
Viva Color!
Dig in and help plant hundreds of flowers and greens in the decorative pots that dot downtown streets at a Viva Color volunteer planting event, 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday. All ages are welcome. The city provides gloves, trowels and souvenir buttons. Meet at the corner of Hewitt and Colby avenues.
This is the first of two annual Viva Color events. The Mukilteo Boulevard planting is June 2 this year.

Rummage sale aids VOICE
A rummage sale to benefit the Edmonds School District VOICE program is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 23200 100th Ave. W, Edmonds.
VOICE stands for Vocational Opportunities in Community Experiences. It’s a transitional program that teaches job skills to young adults with disabilities. Students spend time in the classroom each morning, then head to on-site training in the afternoon. All sale proceeds will go to classrooms, field trips and scholarships.

Sew Thoughtful
This month’s Sew Thoughtful charitable sewing project by the Snohomish County Clothing and Textile Advisors will involve assembling simple quilted blankets for local police to carry in their vehicles. The work party is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave. W, Lynnwood. Bring your machine and other sewing supplies, and your own lunch. Kits provided.
