Susan Volland: 6 p.m. Nov. 18, Third Place Books, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park. A classically trained chef, Volland has a new cookbook out. “Searing Inspirations” is meant to inspire home cooks to invent dishes, bringing the age-old pan sauce to modern tastes and kitchens. Find more than 60 recipes for mastering the art of the homemade sauce. Volland also is the author of “Mastering Sauces: The Home Cook’s Guide to New Techniques for Fresh Flavors.” More at www.thirdplacebooks.com.

Liane Moriarty: 7 p.m. Nov. 19, Third Place Books, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park. From the bestselling author of “Big Little Lies” comes another page-turner about nine guests who gather at a remote health resort for 10 days. They know their stay will involve some real work — but none of them could imagine just how challenging it will be. “Nine Perfect Strangers” is Moriarty’s latest in a series of bestselling fiction. Franklin Veaux: 2 p.m. Nov. 24, The Neverending Bookshop, 7530 Olympic View Drive, Unit 105, Edmonds. Veaux co-authored “Black Iron” with Eve Rickert. Picture Victorian England without Queen Victoria, in a world where the Protestant Reformation never happened, the British don’t drink tea and the Colonies are still, well, colonies. Add political intrigue, theft, and schism in the Catholic Church. And make it a comedy. This is the world of “Black Iron.” More at www.theneverendingbookshop.com.

Paul Dorpat and Jean Sherrard: 7 p.m. Nov. 29, Third Place Books, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park. “Seattle Now & Then” is Dorpat’s compilation of a lifetime of documenting the city’s heritage as a local historian. He has written his photo-history column with the same name for The Seattle Times since 1982. Each “then” image is paired with a new, matching “now” picture photographed by Jean Sherrard. Dorpat is the author of many books, including three volumes of “Seattle Now & Then” and “Building Washington.” Sherrard is a photographer, writer and actor who began working with Dorpat about 20 years ago. James D. Macon: 11 a.m. Dec. 1, The Neverending Bookshop, 7530 Olympic View Drive, Unit 105, Edmonds. The bookstore welcomes Macon back to talk about his latest book in the “Phosfire Journey” series. “Opener of Doors” picks up where “Purveryors and Acquirers” and “Practitioner of the Arts” leaves off. Zeal, a young phosfire and his shadow cat, Kit, seek out the cause of Mother Essmee’s distress, only to find out that his esteemed mentor — Master Feneas — is dying. What happens when Mother Essmee and Master Feneas’ bond is shattered? Zeal doesn’t want to find out. More at www.theneverendingbookshop.com.
