EVERETT — This little piggy … went to the forefront of a bank’s marketing campaign.

Peoples Bank is scattering 200 piggy banks at its 23 branches statewide. Each plastic piggy has $30 in cash.

The bank, headquartered in Bellingham, has a piggy bank promotion every August, just in time for when kids start getting bored and parents start getting broke.

This year’s theme, Pigs in Paradise, starts Aug. 1.

The piggy banks will be placed within a mile of all Peoples Banks. There are five branches in Snohomish County, in Everett, Edmonds, Mill Creek and Snohomish. The three Island County branches are in Coupeville, Freeland and Oak Harbor.

The bank would not say how many piggy banks will be hidden around each branch or at the rate they will appear. A passel of pigs won’t show at one spot; rather the piglets will appear over time during the month.

Look for a white pig with a green nose. Not all farm pigs are pink. The white pig is a real breed.

The green inside is real.

Finders aren’t keepers of it all. The finder gets $15 and is supposed to give $15 to make someone else’s day better.

They then share their tale on social media on the Peoples Bank Facebook or Instagram accounts (@peoplesbankwa).

Anyone who shares a story of how they paid forward an act of kindness — whether they find a piggy bank or not — will be entered in a drawing to win $2,500.

Stories also can be deposited in person at any bank branch.

There will be a drawing at a branch office to win a separate bonus prize of $400, half of which is earmarked for donation to a nonprofit of the winner’s choice.
