Dunn poised to advance in crowded County Council primary

EVERETT — Updated primary results Thursday boded well for Megan Dunn, an Everett activist, to make it to the Nov. 5 general election.

Dunn solidified her second-place standing for the Snohomish County Council District 2 seat with a 191-vote lead over Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson, a fellow Democrat. That nearly tripled her advantage from a day earlier. Gregerson had a slight edge after the polls closed Tuesday.

Elections officials estimate that only a few hundred more ballots are left to tally, making it unlikely the standings will change.

“I still want to wait for more votes to come in,” Dunn said. “Not every vote has been counted. But it does seem like we’re moving on to the general election. We had a strong field campaign, we did all we could to reach as many people in person as possible.”

Gregerson wasn’t ready to concede — yet.

“I’m not totally ready to accept defeat, but it looks like my future is as mayor of Mukilteo and hopefully working with Megan Dunn,” she said.

They’re vying for a chance to compete this fall against the top vote-getter, Anna Rohrbough, who serves on the Mukilteo City Council.

They were part of a crowded primary field trying to win a four-year term representing Council District 2, which spans the Everett, Mukilteo and Tulalip areas. The incumbent, Brian Sullivan, is coming up against term limits after 12 years on the job.

The lone Republican among eight candidates, Rohrbough garnered nearly 35% of the primary vote. Combined, the Democrats took almost two-thirds, and their party has held the District 2 seat for decades.

County elections officials planned to release updated numbers at 5 p.m. Friday. The results must be certified on Aug. 20.
