Eds. note: The Player of the Year and All-Area teams were chosen by The Herald sports staff based on coach recommendations, season statistics and first-hand observations.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Samaya Morin, jr., OH, Lake Stevens
The Vikings’ standout outside hitter post 4.0 kills per set on an ultra-efficient .377 hitting percentage. Morin added 2.9 digs, 0.6 aces, 0.3 blocks and 0.3 assists per frame while helping Lake Stevens to a program-best second-place finish at the Class 4A state tournament. Morin was named first-team All-Wesco 4A.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Whitney Williams, Arlington
After a tumultous ending to the Eagles’ 2018 season, Williams — in her sixth season as head coach — guided her alma mater to a program-best sixth-place finish at the 3A state tournament and a Wesco 3A/2A title. The Eagles finished 14-0 in league play, dropping just four sets along the way.
FIRST TEAM
Samaya Morin, jr., OH, Lake Stevens
Arianna Bilby, sr., OH, Arlington
Bilby averaged 4.2 kills per frame on a .313 hitting percentage and added 2.9 digs, 0.6 aces, 0.3 assists and 0.3 blocks per set. The senior helped the Eagles to a program-best sixth-place finish at the 3A state tournament and was name first-team All-Wesco 3A/2A.
MacKenzie Whyte, jr., OH, Snohomish
Whyte delivered 4.4 kills per set with a .320 hitting percentage and added 4.7 digs and 1.1 aces per set. Whyte helped Snohomish to its third straight 3A state tournament appearance and earned first-team All-Wesco 3A/2A honors.
Karli Tri, jr., MB, Lake Stevens
Tri posted 1.8 kills, 0.6 blocks, 0.3 digs and 0.2 aces per set while helping the Vikings to a program-best second-place finish at the 4A state tournament. Tri earned a first-team All-Wesco 4A nod.
Michelle Fast, jr., S, Lake Stevens
Fast dished out 7.9 assists per frame and added 2.0 digs, 0.6 aces, 0.4 kills and 0.2 blocker per set while helping the Vikings to a program-best second-place finish at the 4A state tournament. Fast was named first-team All-Wesco 4A.
Surina Soumpholphakdy, jr., L, Lynnwood
Soumpholphakdy averaged 7.6 digs and .4 aces per set for the Royals. She earned first-team All-Wesco 3A/2A honors.
SECOND TEAM
Alli Hansen, sr., OH, King’s
Hansen posted 3.8 kills per set on a .321 hitting percentage and added 2.7 digs per frame. Hansen helped the Knights to a second-place finish at the 1A state tournament and was named North Sound Conference MVP. Hansen has signed to play beach volleyball for NCAA Division I Grand Canyon University.
Paige Wilson, sr., OH, Jackson
Wilson averaged 3.7 kills per set on a .255 hitting percentage and added 2.8 digs and 1.0 aces per frame. Wilson was named first-team All-Wesco 4A and has signed with Division-III Pomona-Pitzer College to continue her volleyball career.
Madison Morgan, sr., OPP, Stanwood
Morgan delivered 3.5 kills, 2.5 digs, .6 aces and .4 blocks per set for the Spartans. She was named first-team All-Wesco 3A/2A.
Sarah Campfield, jr., MB, Snohomish
Campfield delivered 2.3 kills, 1.2 blocks and .5 digs per set while helping lead the Panthers to their third straight 3A state tournament appearance. She was named second-team All-Wesco 3A/2A.
Ava Mason, sr., S, King’s
Mason dished out 9.5 assists and added 2.1 digs per set while helping the Knights to a second-place finish at the 1A state tournament. Mason earned first-team All-North Sound Conference honors.
Lauren Riske, sr., L, Snohomish
Riske averaged 6.0 digs and .6 aces per set while helping the Panthers to their third straight 3A state tournament appearance. She was named first-team All-Wesco 3A/2A.
