We should rediscover our founding principles

As a retired English teacher, I want to express my appreciation for the letter entitled “Emerging from Darkness” published in the Jan. 1 Herald. The writer’s use of graceful, figurative language to compare the year we have all experienced to the turning toward the light that this tiny blue planet does as it passes the winter sol solstice and journeys toward spring reminds us that the we, as individuals, have the ability to do the same.
The Biden administration faces enormous challenges as it seeks to rectify the damage inflected on this country in the last four years. As the writer stated, we the people, will need patience as well as responsibility for our own actions as we move into this new year. I hope the journey will be a rediscovery of the principles on which this country was founded.
