School funding measures now passing in Snohomish, Northshore

EVERETT — Funding measures in the Snohomish and Northshore school districts are now passing after Wednesday’s ballot count.

And prospects improved for a capital projects levy in the Stanwood-Camano School District.

In Snohomish, a four-year property tax levy to fund education programs and operations was passing, 50.6% to 49.4%. It led by 146 votes. On Tuesday, vote totals were dead even between those for and against the measure.

A second ballot proposition to fund capital improvements was also ahead, 52.5% to 47.5%.

“The most recent election results continue to move in a favorable direction,” said district spokeswoman Kristin Foley. “Although many votes remain to be counted, we feel optimistic that the levies will pass.

In Northshore, backing for a $425 million bond increased enough to push it above the required 60% threshold for passage.

Proposition 2 garnered 60.7% to 39.3% after Wednesday’s update. In Snohomish County, it had 59.5% support. In King County, where more district voters reside, it had 61.4%.

In Stanwood-Camano, a four-year $10.4 million capital improvement tax was still failing, but not by as much as Election Night.

On Wednesday, 51.8% of voters were rejecting it, down from 52.1%. Money collected would be spent to upgrade technology, put new roofs on buildings, and replace aging sprinkler and public address systems.
