Jim Angell has joined the business services team of Peoples Bank for King and Snohomish counties. In his new role, Angell will work with current and prospective bank clients to develop cash management solutions for small and medium-sized firms. He is a longtime resident of the Pacific Northwest.
Goldfinch Brothers has announced that Jeff Wilson has joined the company as an estimator and project manager in the commercial division. Wilson brings nearly 30 years of experience to the company.
He began his career with Lindal Building Products and later spent five years at Insulate Industries. Most recently he spent 16 years at SGS Glass Co. At Goldfinch Brothers, he will be responsible for estimating, project management and customer service for tenant improvement projects.

Snohomish County surveyor Amanda Askren has been named Surveyor of the Year by the Land Surveyor’s Association of Washington. As one of only 12 female registered surveyors in Washington, she is the first woman in the state to receive the honor. Askren is a supervisor in the county’s Public Works Department and has chaired the state conference for the past two years.
Soroptimist International of Sno-King presented its annual awards on April 21 at the Nile Golf and Country Club. Hanah Joudi, a Mountlake Terrace High School student, was selected as winner of the Violet Richardson Award. Joudi volunteers with Teen Feed. Special education student teacher Melanie Hartman was selected as the Women’s Opportunity Award winner. The Ruby Award winner is flight nurse Krista Haugen. She is currently raising money for an Air Medical Memorial and Survivors Garden.
The Snohomish County Bar Association presented awards at its annual benefit dinner on May 5. The SCBA President’s Award was given to Elizabeth A. Fraser. Jason M. Schwarz received the Attorney of the Year Award. The Judge of the Year Award was given to the Fred Gillings. The Annette Tupper Advocacy Award was presented to Margaret Bruland and Rachel Edmiston won the Pro Bono Award. SCBA members raised $32,000 to benefit Snohomish County Legal Services in their work to provide free legal aid to Snohomish County residents in need.

The annual meeting of Economic Alliance Snohomish County is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The event will feature a keynote address by Boeing 767 executive Kim Pastega and presentation of the Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year Award, the John M. Fluke Sr. Service Award and Herald Business Journal’s Executive of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Jack Ng, owner of the China City restaurants, is inviting the community to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of China City Center on Scott Road in Freeland on Whidbey Island. The event is 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. A complimentary Chinese buffet and soft drinks will be provided. Also planned are special activities for parents and children provided by Freeland’s Paint Escape. China City features a large variety of American-style Chinese food and is open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week.
WorkSource Snohomish County’s SummerPalooza 2012 is from 1 to 6 p.m. May 22 at WorkSource Monroe. Employers and community organizations will be onsite, offering summer employment, internships and volunteer opportunities to high school youth and adults. ARTspot plans to open its doors in downtown Edmonds in June. According to ARTspot director Tracy Felix Fraker, the store will be a place for artists to purchase professional supplies and a fun place to hang out and talk about current projects. The business will also offer classes for all levels and ages and showcase artists’ work. ARTspot is a collaborative venture between professional artist Felix Fraker and Denise Cole, owner of Cole Gallery.
Silicon Energy, a manufacturer of world-class solar photovoltaic systems in Marysville, has selected Motech Americas as an exclusive supplier of standard photovoltaic solar modules. Motech Industries is the sixth largest solar-cell manufacturer in the world.
