A popular event is staged on June 4 at the Schack Art Center, where the world-class exhibition “Chuck Close: Prints, Process and Collaboration” is displayed through the summer.
The event is the 21st annual Artists’ Garage Sale.
For people looking to start art collections or for those on the lookout for art supplies, the sale is a deal.
A big deal.
A bit of advice: Get there early for the best selection. Line up well before the 9 a.m. start time. Or come closer to the 3 p.m. closing time for the best deals. The artists don’t want to drag anything back to their studios.
More advice: Bring cash. Bring lots of cash. While you are in for some good prices, remember that you are buying original art work.
My editor likes to buy glass tumblers for about $10 each. Her water glass collection is varied and very cool.
This year more than 125 artists will be selling seconds, old stock and new work including paintings, jewelry, glass, fiber arts, ceramics, photography, sculpture and garden art, as well as miscellaneous art supplies at prices below retail.
Event coordinator Jennifer MacLean calls the sale “fast and fun.”
Participating artists are listed at www.schack.org.
Admission is free.
Because of the Close exhibit, all the sale tables will be outside, rain or shine, on Hoyt Avenue in front of the Schack. Parking at the Everpark Garage one block north is free.
Go.
