J.M. Barrie’s opening line, “All children, except one, grow up,” launched the classic tale of “Peter Pan” more than a century ago. Now that tale will come to life at Book-It Repertory Theatre.

Previews begin Tuesday with opening night set for Nov. 30 at Center House Theatre in Seattle. The show runs through Dec. 23.

Book-It is promising a fresh look to this classic tale while keeping to the story line, in which the Darling children meet the impish Peter Pan, who whisks them to Neverland where there are no adult rules but there are pirates and the evil Captain Hook.

“Seussical the Musical”: It seems like all the favorite Dr. Seuss characters appear in this wonderful musical that teaches the valuable lesson that all persons are persons no matter how small.

Civic Light Opera’s presentation of this musical continues through Dec. 2 at Magnuson Park Theatre in Seattle.

The timeless characters include Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville joined by Jojo, a young boy who is a thinker of thinks. Seuss’ subtle themes remain relevant today and the musical score ranges from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and rhythm and blues to funk.

Dane Cook: He’s one of the hottest comics in the business of stand-up comedy today and is creating a name for himself as an actor and even a singer who just released his first rock single.

The versatile and hilarious Cook performs Thursday at KeyArena in Seattle.

Entertainment Weekly called Cook a “comedian phenom.” This prolific stand-up comic has also done a variety of movies, including his most recent release starring alongside Steve Carell in “Dan in Real Life.” Last fall, Cook delivered his first leading role as the likable slacker Zack in “Employee of the Month.”

Cook is known for his physical and energetic comedy, clever wordplay and his observations about human behavior. His CD “Retaliation” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and hit double platinum. Cook’s break into the music industry was with his rock single “I’ll Never Be You.”

“Hearts on Fire”: This is a three-hour whirlwind of cirque, cabaret and comedy served up with a five-course gourmet feast designed by Northwest chef Tom Douglas.

Teatro ZinZanni reopens its tent Wednesday at its new facility at 222 Mercer St., Seattle. This new show features Telma Houston, Christine Deaver and El Vez and an international cast of 10.
