WHAT: The FurBuster De-Shedding Tool removes animal hair, decreasing the amount of hair deposited around your house.
ADVANTAGES: This less expensive, yet equally effective version of the FURminator worked great on The Herald’s test cat, Po. Also, with the FurBuster, it’s possible to swap different size stainless steel blades for different animals, thanks to a universal tool.
LIMITATIONS: You should not use this tool on nonshedding breeds such as standard poodles.
COST: $24.99 for a small (2-inch blade), $27.99 for a medium (2.75-inch blade) and $34.99 for a large (4-inch blade). Extra blades are $14.99 (small), $17.99 (medium) and $19.99 (large). FURminators, meanwhile, start at $34.95 and don’t allow you to switch blades.
WHERE: Look for it at Petco, PetSmart, Target, Walmart, Kmart and specialty pet stores.
