Arlington man who died after driving into river is identified

ARLINGTON — Officials on Monday identified an Arlington man who died this past weekend after he drove his van off Highway 530 into the Stillaguamish River.

Timothy P. Brocato, 52, died from asphyxia caused by drowning, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. His death was ruled an accident.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. Saturday, midway between I-5 and Arlington. Witnesses said they saw the van cross the highway before driving into the river.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the Washington State Patrol.
