MARYSVILLE — Police here say the man on the motorcycle really did not want to stop.
When a Marysville patrol officer tried to pull him over June 13, the suspect reportedly “flipped him off with his middle finger” and sped away, reaching speeds of 90 mph.
Traffic was too tangled for the cops to safely give chase. They had to watch him slip away.
The incident was one of five pursuits involving the same suspect during a 10-day stretch that month, according to police reports filed this week in Everett District Court.
The escape routes wound through store parking lots, along congested thoroughfares, sleepy residential streets, a school zone and even the pedestrian paths winding through Jennings Park, documents show.
All that chasing about came to a halt June 14 when an officer managed to get a patrol car close enough to the suspect’s bike to bump its rear tire.
The rider lost his balance, set the bike on its side and ran. He was tackled.
Police say they have a long history with Todd M. Kingma, 35, of Marysville.
During a 2014 incident, Kingma reportedly nearly ran over officers while at the wheel of a car. As he drove past, he “leaned forward with a big smile on his face and flipped us off with his middle finger,” police wrote.
In March 2016, the Snohomish County Violent Offenders Task Force helped Marysville make an arrest. The ex-con had called his probation officer and left a message: “Catch me if you can.”
When officers closed in, the suspect attempted to climb out a second-story window.
“Look,” Kingma reportedly said after being fitted with handcuffs, “I’ve been to prison too many times. I can’t stand it there. I’m like a bird that can’t be caged. I will do whatever it takes to try to get away.”
Since his June arrest, Kingma has been in the custody of the state prison system on warrants. The state released him Wednesday into the custody of Marysville police, who arrested him in connection with the June mayhem.
He was being held Thursday at the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of five counts of attempting to elude police, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving with a suspended license and drug possession.
