EVERETT — The body of a tenant missing since late August was found last month in Kittitas County, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The 49-year-old Everett-area man was last heard from on Aug. 28. Detectives believe his landlord, Lloyd Richmond, 84, killed him at a residence in the 8800 block of Del Campo Drive near Everett, according to the sheriff’s office.

Prosecutors charged Richmond in September with second-degree murder.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots the day the tenant went missing. According to court papers, a neighbor saw Richmond get a gray tarp, “wrap something” in the driveway and load it into the bed of his Dodge pickup. The neighbor later saw Richmond spread some type of “litter or absorbent” to cover up a red stain on the driveway.

Detectives are still investigating the case. They served a search warrant at the Del Campo Drive residence Friday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Richmond was also charged in September with assaulting two of his other renters.

In September 2019, Richmond allegedly beat a woman with a tire wrench. About a month later, he allegedly grabbed a tenant by the throat.

Richmond has been in the Snohomish County Jail since his arrest in early September. His bail is $1.2 million — $1 million for the alleged murder and $100,000 for each of the alleged assaults.
