Christmas dance is a chance for fun

Folks with special needs will boogie Tuesday at the Christmas All Aboard S.P.I.N (Special People in Need) Dance at 7 p.m. at Floral Hall at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. in Everett.

Shannon Danks, who teaches art with All Aboard, says that since 1968, those with special needs have participated in S.P.I.N. Dances on the third Tuesday of every month. Gerry and Victoria Albin have been organizing the party since 1992.

All Aboard is a program for adults with developmental disabilities.

“Gerry chooses the music and keeps the fun going with snacks, pizza parties, Halloween, Christmas, Sweetheart dances and team activities,” Danks says. “Usually from 150 to 250 people participate, depending on the time of year.”

Evergreen Kiwanis provides cookies, punch and coffee. Everett Parks and Recreation offers the hall.

“We love all of our volunteers and their loyalty,” Danks says.

At the Christmas dance tonight, Robert Martin will make an appearance in a white beard and red suit. For more information, call 360-652-6143, or Larry Knoll, Chief Executive Officer of All Aboard, at 425-359-4414.

Albin says all are welcome to dance tonight.

Everett High School students are dedicated to the arts.

Students are giving up time during their Christmas break to get ready for a theatrical production.

Paula Antonevich, Everett High School Drama Club adviser, says they are offering “Frankenstein: A New Musical,” Jan 13 through 16 in the Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave. in Everett.

“The students have been working very hard,” Antonevich says. “They are even giving up the second week of their winter break to rehearse from noon to 4 p.m. every day.”

She says this will be the first musical performed in the Civic Auditorium by Everett High School students in at least three years.

Someone is getting Fido or Fifi for Christmas.

Finding a home at this time of year is a lucky break for a homeless dog or puppy.

They’ve come up with an effective idea at Pawsitive Alliance in Bothell. They bring together pets from several rescue and shelter organizations for one-day adoption events.

Out of 80 dogs brought together Dec. 12, 54 were adopted.

The dogs came from 11 organizations and included puppies, adults, small dogs, purebred and mixed breeds. The dogs were sterilized and given shots before heading for new yards. Each pet was evaluated for behavior and temperament.

Alliance board member Andrea Logan says dogs leave with a money back guarantee and are always welcome back at the shelter or rescue for any reason if it’s not a right fit for a family.

Year after year we get questions from readers about what to do with Christmas cards after Dec. 25.

They have an answer at the Mukilteo Library.

Librarian Ruth Griffith says to bring in old greeting cards and calendars for a party from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. in Mukilteo.

They will use the cards to make envelopes, little boxes, CD sleeves, gift tags, folded flowers and other decorations.

The party is for adults or children accompanied by an adult. The child must be able to cut with scissors, fold and trace using stencils.

Just drop by.
