An Everett man pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in the Nov. 9 shooting death of Feroz Rahman, whose body was found several days later near power lines in the 19500 block of Burn Road near Arlington.
Dustin Arthur Noyes, 30, admitted in Snohomish County Superior Court that he shot Rahman, 23. Court papers say the killing may have been about a dispute over a woman.
In a plea, Noyes admitted he shot Rahman “in the ear, causing his immediate death. I intended to cause his death.”
The plea comes after Noyes’ ex-girlfriend, Lynnmarie Katherine Lang, 22, pleaded guilty to rendering criminal assistance for lying to police during the investigation.
She could serve up to three years behind bars.
The sentencing range for Noyes is about 15 to 23 years in prison.
Everett defense attorney Ken Lee said he and deputy prosecutor Ed Stemler have agreed to recommend the low end of the range when Judge George Bowden sentences Noyes next week.
Court papers say Noyes, Lang and Rahman had been riding in a stolen van and stopped at a remote location to clean it out. Lang was switching the license plates while the two men were throwing out materials from the van.
She heard the men argue, and then there was a gunshot, papers say.
Later that day, Lang and Noyes were arrested for possessing the stolen van. The two were connected to the homicide by papers and materials found near where Rahman’s body was found.
When questioned about the shooting in January, Noyes and Lang denied any knowledge of it. They later both accused each other of pulling the trigger until Noyes’ plea on Wednesday.
