SEATTLE — A former Washington State Patrol trooper who suffered brain damage while a passenger in a drunken-driving crash has sued the driver and a Seattle radio station that hosted a New Year’s Eve party.
Jeremy Reid filed a lawsuit in King County Superior Court naming Eric Thomas, the driver and a former Bellevue police officer, and the station KUBE 93 FM, which is owned by the Ackerley Group. Reid and his mother Carol also claim in the suit that the Space Needle Corp. is to blame for serving the alcohol.
The lawsuit contends that that Thomas was served alcohol at the KUBE party even though "he was obviously intoxicated."
The Reids are seeking unspecified damages. The case is scheduled to go to trial in May 2003.
Space Needle vice president Peter Beck said his corporation often provides food and alcoholic drinks for special events, but aims to do so responsibly. He and an Ackerley Group spokesman said they needed to review the lawsuit before commenting.
Reid filed the lawsuit in late December.
