Check smoke alarms

Sunday marks the start of Daylight Saving Time, when clocks get moved forward an hour. Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens reminds people it’s a good time to also check the batteries in their smoke alarms. Smoke alarms can save lives in case of a fire. The devices should be replaced at least every 10 years.

Tour Edmonds schools: Superintendent Kristine McDuffy will give an update on Edmonds School District programs, then lead a tour by school bus to the new maintenance and transportation facility, Mountlake Terrace High School and Hazelwood Elementary. The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon Thursday. RSVP is not required, but is requested by Monday to get a meal and bus count. This is the third of four tours. The last tour, focusing on the northeast part of the district, is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. May 4. For more information, contact Oscar Halpert at halperto@edmonds.wednet.edu, 425-431-7045.

Kindergarten in Monroe: The Monroe School District will hold kindergarten information nights at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at each elementary school. Registration packets will be available.

Each school offers free all-day kindergarten. An English-Spanish program is offered at Frank Wagner Elementary, and Maltby Elementary offers a Montessori program; special applications are required. For more information, go to www.monroe.wednet.edu or call 360-804-2650.
