Front Porch: Training drill today at Naval Station Everett

The National Guard conducts an annual training exercise from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Naval Station Everett.

Teams from Army and Air Force bases across the state will practice responding to a staged chemical explosion.

Big yellow tents, trucks and trailers will be set up in the parking lot, designated as the mock command, control and decontamination site. During the drill, a search and extraction team will “rescue” participants acting as casualties and bring them through decontamination for medical triage.

Participants also include trained doctors and nurses.

No chemical agents will be used.

Meet the candidates: A candidates forum is planned for tonight in Edmonds.

The event is at 7 p.m. at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for an opportunity to meet the candidates.

Candidates for Edmonds City Council, Edmonds School District, Stevens Hospital District, the Port of Edmonds and the Alderwood and Olympic View water districts have been invited.

Candidates are scheduled to make presentations followed by a question-and-answer session.

Parking is free in the south parking lot and admission is $7 for lawn seating at Everett Memorial Stadium, 3802 Broadway, Everett. The gate opens at noon.

Health education booths in the main concourse will include a display of real organs and body parts affected by healthy and unhealthy choices.
