Volunteers needed
Snohomish County Fire District 1 is seeking volunteers to write pro/con statements for the general election. The district plans to run a fire levy on the November ballot. Applicants must contact District Secretary April Richardson by 5 p.m. Friday at 12425 Meridian Ave. S., Everett, or arichardson@firedistrict1.org. The statements from the chosen applicants’ committees are due Aug. 16. The fire district serves most of unincorporated, urban southwest county, plus the cities of Brier, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace.
New neighborhood: The city of Lynnwood is reviewing an application from a developer who wants to build 11 houses that will be accessed by 177th Place SW, off 36th Avenue W. A small neighborhood park is part of the plan. The opportunity for public comment on the project, called Arianna Place, ends Aug. 4. More info: 425-670-5411.
Chief not yet named: The city of Lake Stevens now expects to announce the hiring of a new police chief by the end of August. The final candidate is undergoing a background check, Interim City Administrator Mary Swenson said Tuesday.
Ralph Krusey, who retired from the Marysville Police Department, is serving as interim police chief. The chief oversees about 30 Lake Stevens police officers. The chief position pays up to $145,128.
