EDMONDS – The U.S. Coast Guard launched one of its own helicopters Thursday night, and Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were also searching for a missing medical helicopter out of Seattle.
The medical helicopter was en route to Arlington from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and was overdue.
The helicopter was owned by Airlift Northwest. A spokeswoman confirmed late Thursday that the helicopter was on its way to Arlington, where some of their helicopters are kept at the Arlington Airport.
She confirmed that a search was ongoing.
The Coast Guard helicopter was searching the waters off Edmonds near Meadowdale Marina.
An Edmonds resident living on Talbot Road called 911 after he heard a helicopter fly over his house, followed by what he believed was a loud explosion.
The Coast Guard sent out its helicopter about 10:30 p.m. A Snohomish County sheriff’s helicopter couldn’t go up because of bad weather.
County search and rescue crews were on the ground searching, but no other information was available, said sheriff’s department spokesman David Hayes.
He said witnesses reported seeing bright flashes in the Edmonds area, but didn’t have a precise location.
