LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood police department is asking the public for help after one of its K9 unit dogs ran away following Thursday’s lightning storm.

Sgt. Chris Lawler says Duke, a 10-year-old lab retriever mix, chewed his way out of his kennel during the storm, most likely scared by thunder. Duke has been a narcotics dog with the department for more than six years.

The dog ran away from his handler’s home near the area of 208th Street and the Mountain Highway in Spanaway-Graham area.

Lawler says Duke is wearing a collar and is microchipped.
