Classes may be closed because of a teachers’ strike but academically struggling students at Marysville-Pilchuck High School eventually will get extra help after the campus received a half- million dollar grant from the federal Department of Education.
The school will receive $498,198 over three years as part of a federal small schools grant program, the district announced Monday.
“The money is very targeted, very specific funding that will go to students who are not achieving,” said Abbey Blake, a spokeswoman in Congressman Rick Larsen’s office.
Money will be used for teacher training and to provide materials that will create smaller learning environments. The goal is to make learning more personal for academically at-risk students, officials said.
