Edmonds police Thursday night booked a suicidal 84-year-old north Edmonds man into Snohomish County Jail after his wife told officers he’d threatened to kill himself and she heard a gunshot.
No one was injured in the incident. Police responded to a house in the 6600 block of 170th Place SW near Meadowdale High School at about 6:30 p.m.
The man’s wife told police he’d walked into a back bedroom of their house “despondent and suicidal” and “shortly after that she heard a shot fired,” Sgt. Don Anderson said in a prepared statement.
A South Snohomish County SWAT team negotiator managed to convince the armed man to surrender, unarmed, at about 8:40 p.m., the release said.
Police took the man to Stevens Hospital for a mental evaluation and later booked him into jail.
Traffic was disrupted during the incident and some nearby neighbors were asked to evacuate their homes briefly.
