New roundabout will serve as ‘gateway’ to Tulalip

A new roundabout intersection under construction in Tulalip will serve an expanded casino and serve as a “gateway” to tribal land.

Crews are installing a two-lane roundabout on Marine Drive at 31st Avenue NE. A second, compact roundabout will be installed at the intersection of 62nd Place NE and 31st Avenue NE. Work also includes repaving and widening certain stretches of roadways, and installing sidewalks, landscaping and other improvements.

The revamped intersection on Marine Drive is designed to better serve traffic heading to an expanded Quil Ceda Creek Casino — under construction across the street from the current casino and double in size — that is slated to open next year.

The former traffic signal at 31st Avenue has been removed. The switch to a roundabout at that intersection will offer the best chance at congestion relief while also anticipating future improvements at the I-5 interchange, planners said.

Drivers are asked to be cautious when passing through the area. Road work is expected to wrap up in January.
