EVERETT — One of four co-defendants has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in a Marysville robbery that turned into a homicide.
The others, including the suspected shooter and his brother, are facing a January trial for first-degree murder.
Tye Burley, 30, of Arlington, was shot in the head in February on the sidewalk outside the motel where he was staying.
Prosecutors allege that Burley told others about winning $7,000 at a local casino, and a group of them came after the cash.
One of them, Jared Evans, 29, of Marysville, recently was convicted of first-degree robbery. In plea paperwork, he admitted he was an accomplice and that the other men were armed going into the confrontation.
Evans, who had no felony history, said he was paid $100 for his participation. He has agreed to testify at trial.
At sentencing next month, he faces up to 3½ years in prison under state guidelines.
Jorge Martinez Jr., 32, of Mount Vernon, is accused of beating Burley and firing the fatal shot. Martinez’ mother told police that he claims the gun went off accidentally, according to court papers.
His brother, Jose Nava, 30, of Everett, assaulted the victim and took his wallet, prosecutors say.
Jeremy Dailey, 33, of Marysville, reportedly plotted the robbery. He was an acquaintance of Burley’s and invited him to stay at the motel after learning about the casino winnings, according to the charges.
Prosecutors say that Dailey and Evans knew each other through heroin deals.
All four defendants remain in custody at the Snohomish County Jail.
