LYNNWOOD — A burglary suspect was flushed out of a pawn shop building on Highway 99 and arrested by the North Sound Metro SWAT team Sunday morning in Lynnwood.
The store’s burglary alarm went off at 3:10 a.m. and Lynnwood police officers determined someone had entered an upstairs office and tried to reach the shop below. It was unclear if the suspect, a 23-year-old man from Tulalip, got inside the pawn store.
They went inside and reportedly heard someone upstairs, but the person broke out a window and barricade it, according to the Lynnwood Police Department.
Firearms were in the shop, which increased the risk to officers who tried to get the suspect to surrender. After over three hours of negotiation attempts, the SWAT team used pepper spray which prompted the suspect to come out around 8 a.m.
The suspect was treated for exposure to the chemical irritant and was to be arrested for investigation on felony charges.
Highway 99 was closed between 196th Street SW and 200th Street SW during the negotiations.
