Rockslide blocks highway to Neah Bay

NEAH BAY — A rock and mudslide has blocked Highway 112 five miles from Neah Bay.

The Department of Transportation says there is no detour, so the town on the Makah Indian Reservation is isolated until crews can reopen the highway.

The slide came down about 9 p.m. Monday. A DOT spokeswoman, Kelly Stowe, says crews had to stop work in the dark because of the danger. They resumed work at daylight today, but the highway is expected to remain blocked until at least 6 p.m.

Stowe says slides are a recurring problem in that area.
