50 years ago (1954)
Bob Humphrey, Everett Chamber of Commerce president, received from Tom Grant of Canyon Creek a number of pamphlets advertising Snohomish County that the chamber had put out. Also present were Camp Fire Girls from Granite Falls. They were Joan Winge, Mary Lou Bowyer, Sharon Darringer, Darlene Darringer and Diana Meyer.
Ron Brown, an Everett High School senior, smiled as he accepted from principal Bert Vanderwilt a scholarship to Everett Junior College donated by H.O. Seiffert Co. Scholarships were presented at Everett High, one of the highlights of the school’s annual Campus Day observance.
25 years ago (1979)
The E.A. Nord Co. in Everett was planning a major expansion of its waterfront plant that would add up to 700 new jobs. Public relations representative Carol Trotto said Nord wanted to fill approximately 11 acres south of the present Norton Avenue plant to expand its production lines for home doors, staircase spindles and other wood products that were shipped to world markets.
“Ork! Ork! Ork!” was a common sound heard on the Everett waterfront. Terry Buckridge, biology instructor at Everett Community College, said that the California sea lion population had swelled from 50 to 200 this year.
