VANCOUVER, Wash. — Rescuers went to the aid of two women and a 3-year-old boy who became exhausted and called for help as they were hiking back down the trail from Ape Cave on the south side of Mount St. Helens.
Tom McDowell of the Volcano Rescue Team said snowmobiles traveled about a mile to reach the hikers Sunday night. One woman was taken to a hospital.
The Columbian reported it was the second time this month that hikers near Ape Cave had to be rescued. The cave takes it name from a report in the 1920s of a sasquatch throwing rocks at miners.
