TACOMA — As part of a $57 million renovation that begins next month, the Murray Morgan bridge in Tacoma will be painted black, its original color in 1913.

The News Tribune reports the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission chose black over the bridge’s more recent silver color.

When it reopens in December 2012, the bridge will be open to pedestrians and vehicle traffic without weight restrictions.
