Agency can’t be trusted with our money

When it comes to Sound Transit, who really does know the facts? Maybe all any of us know about the agency is what we can see through the smoke and mirrors of its ongoing attempts to cover up mismanagement and deceive the taxpayers. Former Sen. Slade Gorton has suggested I don’t know the facts and he does about Sound Transit. Maybe he needs to tell Jennifer Dunn and the rest of Congress about his facts since they obviously still have questions. Recently a $500 million Federal grant to Sound Transit was held up because of lingering doubts about how ST might handle funding. Maybe Congress doesn’t have the same facts I don’t have.

I heard Dave Earling tell me recently that all my Snohomish County Sound Transit tax dollars are being spent right here. That’s of little comfort and here’s why. Sound Transit is an agency characterized by dubious contracting practices, incompetent performance, duplicitous management and a total lack of integrity. Whether my tax dollars are squandered here or in King County, the “fact” is they are wasted. My reality is that I’m paying a significant Sound Transit tax with no discernable improvement now or in the future in congestion. My reality is that I’m now also paying a significant gas tax, purportedly to address transportation problems Sound Transit’s politically correct, not-so-“mass” transit systems were going to resolve.

Well, Mr. Gorton and Mr. Earling, maybe the facts are just a little different when you’re paying through the nose for them.
