Inslee’s ‘facts’ unconvincing

Along with about 1,200 highly energized folks, I attended Rep. Jay Inslee’s health care town hall in Edmonds on Sunday. The polished and slick Congressman promised much better access to much higher quality care as soon as we surrendered our doctor-patient relationship to our friendly, efficient, trusted federal government’s oversight. Think, Internal Revenue Service, Post Office, Department of Motor Vehicles and Amtrak.

The Congressman presented several slides containing slanted and simplistic “facts,” which naively promised that ObamaCare will easily provide more services for more patients for less overall health care costs. Think, Fantasy Island.

Rep. Inslee assured us that he is working especially hard to include the government’s public option. He argues that the trusted government will be a player, “only to keep the market’s 1,300 insurance companies honest.” Could the public option be a precursor to single payer? No way. Think, Kids Say the Darndest Things.

A woman, who once lived in a socialist country, strongly supports ObamaCare. Unfortunately, she ruined her argument and burst Rep. Inslee’s balloon with one, simple socialistic truth. She stated, the government’s health care in the country where she once lived, “… didn’t offer much (quality) but everyone had access to it.” Think, Duh!

Infected by the “something for nothing” mentality at the town hall, I found myself dreaming. I dreamed that Rep. Inslee could apply his magical market economics to GM – Government Motors. Then, for the very low price of a clunker, I could purchase my brand new, shiny, red Corvette. Today, I will pay a very low, clunker’s price for the Corvette and, tomorrow, my children and grandchildren would pay the realistic but much higher cost plus interest. Think, truth!

Maybe Jay Inslee’s socialistic-like thinking results from being a Congressman much too long. Let’s consider giving him a private option. Think, Change in 2010!
