Costco’s interest a little too vested

I have heard the good arguments pro and con on the initiative to privatize liquor sales. Even though it’s hard to see the good of making liquor more accessible to the young, the proponents have several good points.
The big problem I have is the roughly $29 million Costco has contributed to the effort. Isn’t this excessive? I know that the Supreme Court calls this money free speech. This doesn’t seem like good democracy to me. These contributions alone should prompt us to vote no on I-1183.
