With the recent win for the Republicans, due in part to President Bush, Mr. Bush has an increased level of responsibility. This new power derived from control of both houses of Congress brings more responsibility. The president needs to fight his initial urges to push through a right wing agenda. Both parties have strong- willed fringe elements and these elements push an agenda the majority in both parties deplores.
Most Americans are moderate. Presidents who govern from the center get more done and improve the country. One area of concern for all citizens is the Supreme Court. Appointing judges is a solemn responsibility for all presidents. The founding fathers had great vision when they provided a government with checks and balances. The U.S. Supreme Court should be above politics. Trying to use the courts to get what isn’t available through legislation by elected officials is not right. Judges need to be fair and honest, but also moderate in temperament. We don’t need judges with an agenda for change. Our elected officials are the ones who will make the laws and the judges will insure the laws are constitutional.
Mr. President, please exercise your newly acquired power wisely and in a moderate way. We are all counting on you to do just that. If you don’t exercise moderation you will lose both a great opportunity to do good and the next election.
