Downsized upsize
Let’s get small: If your grocery bags seem a little lighter these days, it may not be because you’ve been working out. With prices rising for some commodities, food makers are trying to hold off on increasing what they charge by putting less in their packaging, for example, 22 slices of Kraft cheese down from 24.
The trend has even hit 7-Eleven’s legendary Big Gulp, which has slimmed down to 31 gallons from 42.
Cheaper to keep him — in the dark: Married couples tend to hold different perspectives about their personal finances, according to a recent “Love and Money” survey by PNC Financial Services. A majority of men said they made the financial decisions for the couple, while seven in 10 women said the financial decision-making was shared.
But nine in 10 men admitted that their wife made the couple’s money choices when told that watching “Pawn Stars” on the History Channel didn’t count as a financial decision.
Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1839, Congress prohibited dueling in the District of Columbia.
To this day, members of Congress who want to settle matters by taking ivory-handled pistols from velvet pillows and walking off 10 paces have to take it outside to Baltimore.
