Increase another case of fuzzy math

I read with interest the July 28 story, “Verizon to keep slashing costs.” The story told of how slashing costs, an increase in wireless sales and cutbacks helped earn them $1.8 billion in the second quarter. I don’t think that’s too shabby for three months worth of business.
But isn’t this the same Verizon that stated it submitted details for a 75 percent rate hike to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission? Officials said they need higher rates to continue making a profit. They also claimed to have what the company calls a $239.5 million shortage. Sounds like some more fuzzy math to me.
