Youth Forum: Ukraine never started the war, yet U.S. sides with Russia

By Artem Nazarchuk / For The Herald

Ukraine never started the war, yet it is being blamed.

The concept of war is to get what you want or jealousy. Proverbs 14:30 says, “A peaceful mind gives life to the body, but jealousy rots the bones” this is telling us that if you are jealous than you will never go anywhere in life and if you have peace in your mind than you can do anything.

Starting in 2014 Russia surrounded Ukraine with army troops and was ready for war. After three years of fighting President Donald Trump said to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, “you’ve been there for three years. You should have ended it. You should have never started it. You could have made a deal.” However, Ukraine never started the war.

Ukraine never started the war here are the facts. PresidentTrump falsely blamed Ukraine for starting the war that has cost tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives, causing outrage and alarm the country that has spent three years fighting against a much larger Russian military. This proves Ukraine never started the war. Trump is just saying that because of how much power he has over the United States, and he can tell the people any false story and they would believe him.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine didn’t start then. In 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin saw signs that Ukraine was pulling away from Russia’s sphere of influence, seeking alliances with western European nations.

This is a very emotional time for me, and my parents. My parents were born in Ukraine and have many memories of Ukraine, like building tree house or working on the farm and the U.S.S.R took that away from them. The USSR was controlling Ukraine and stealing its resources.

Russia is blaming Ukraine even when they started it. Undoubtedly Tensions between Russia and Ukraine formerly tied together by the Soviet Union go back decades. But the roots of the most recent conflict date back to late 2021, when Russia started growing its military presence around Ukraine under various pretenses while remaining vague on its intentions. By December of that year, tens of thousands of Russian troops were hovering on the border, virtually surrounding the country and stroking tensions the led to a call between Putin and former President Joe Biden.

Russia knows who started it. As the facts get more and more understandable the more we know that Putin is lying to us and PresidentTrump is on Putin’s side because Trump and Putin made an alliance. The escalation comes a day after Trump sent U.S. representatives to Saudi Arabia for a for a meeting with Russia officials, where the two sides agreed to start working toward ending the bloody conflict in Eastern Europe. Ukraine was not included in the discussions, though, which Zelenskyy called a surprise adding “we want no one to decide anything behind our backs.”

Trump later responded by telling reporters that Ukraine “should have never started” the war and “could have made a deal” to prevent it. There’s recently been a huge shift in the U.S. military aid with the new Trump administration making Russia and Ukraine wonder.

Now we see the American president repeating Russian propaganda and Putin’s lies about Ukraine. Putin said that Zelenskyy was a dictator, for example a false claim recently repeated by Trump. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy won by an overwhelming majority in 2019. He had the largest winning majority of any Ukraine president when he won. He would have been up for reelection in 2024, but they’re under wartime and cannot hold elections. The notion that Russia is blaming Ukraine for not having elections while Russia is bombing Ukraine is just mind boggling.

In addition, there’s recently been a huge shift in the US foreign policy with the new Trump administration, given that previous policy was to isolate Russia for its war of aggression against Ukraine. One of the big things is that Russia and the United Sates have recently met. I can’t overstate how huge of a reversal it is on foreign policy’ that the U.S. would be having talks about peace in a country without that country present, as if it’s not an independent country. That’s a very imperialist kind of model where the big countries decide what happens to the smaller countries.

Now Putin and Trump are having talks behind Zelenskyy back, trying to make peace treaties with the country and Ukraine is not even invited to the talks. In short, Putin and Trump are making a alliance against Ukraine

Ukraine did not start the war. In 2021 Russia attacked Ukraine because of the resources that Ukraine had and that made Ukraine, and all the nations wonder why Russia needs Ukraine’s resources when they are the biggest country in the world. As a result, Ukraine never started the war, and My family’s houses are being destroyed to the ground and Ukraine is being blamed.

All I want you to do today is think about it and realize what people are saying about Ukraine and what is happening to families.
