A place of healing: How Everett’s Recovery Café is helping transform lives

For 10 years, Everett Recovery Café has empowered Everett residents through compassion and support

Compassion, community and connection come together at Everett’s Recovery Café, a space that has supported the city’s most vulnerable residents for the past decade.

Providing a safe, healing environment for individuals recovering from homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges, the café’s mission is to empower long-term transformation through connection, accountability and compassion.

“We try our best to meet people where they are and walk alongside them on their recovery journey,” says Café Director Kyle Roscoe. “Everyone deserves to feel a sense of belonging, and that is what we strive to provide at the Recovery Café.”

Radical hospitality and core values

At the heart of Recovery Café are values like acceptance, safety and compassionate empathy. These principles help members feel supported as they build healthier lives.

“Our core values are acceptance, loving accountability, safety, radical hospitality, community connection and quality service,” Roscoe says.

The café uses a Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC), a person-centered approach that meets individuals wherever they are on their recovery journey. ROSC focuses on holistic healing and helps members manage lifelong recovery. The café offers unique programs to ensure its members have the opportunities and support they need to achieve long-term recovery.

Café programs

  • Recovery Circles: Weekly support groups that teach skills for relapse prevention, build self-esteem and encourage accountability.
  • Recovery Coaching: Recovery Coaches, individuals with lived experience in sustained recovery, provide mentorship and personalized guidance to members facing addiction and mental health challenges. By removing barriers and staying focused on the recovery journey, Recovery Coaches play a key role in fostering resilience and hope among café members.
  • Barista Training Program: A key part of the café’s mission to empower members as they work toward sustained recovery. This wraparound program provides hands-on training for an in-demand skill set, helping members gain employment, boost confidence and achieve personal goals.
  • Volunteer opportunities: Members learn leadership and communication skills while giving back.

The café and its programs are largely funded through private donations.
