AquaSox lose to Vancouver in Williamson’s professional debut

EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox lost to the Vancouver Canadians 9-4 in Northwest League action Friday night.

The game marked the professional debut of Brandon Williamson, the Seattle Mariners’ second-round pick in last month’s major-league draft. The left-hander out of TCU threw one-plus innings. He allowed two unearned runs, two hits, and struck out a batter.

Everett’s Austin Shenton hit a two-run home run — the first of his pro career — as part of a three-run fifth inning that tied the game 4-4.

Williamson gave way to Juan Mercedes, who allowed 11 hits, four runs (three earned) and struck out two over 5 1/3 innings. Billy Cooke recorded three hits (two triples) and scored two runs for the AquaSox.

Yorman Rodriguez collected four hits for Vancouver, including a home run. He scored three runs and knocked in three more. Vancouver’s Randy Pondler recorded the win, going 4 1/3 innings. He gave up five hits, three earned runs and struck out four.
