Athletes of the Week: Lechtenberg, Larsen

Mountlake Terrace High School

The senior outside hitter recorded a match-high 21 kills to help lead the Hawks to a 25-18, 25-10, 21-25, 25-20 victory over Shorecrest in a Western Conference 3A match Oct. 20 at Mountlake Terrace High School. Lechtenberg has been on varsity since her freshman season and was one of three seniors honored on senior night. “It was an amazing night,” Lechtenberg said. “I was happy to go out with a big bang. I was focused on the team and us doing well as a whole.” Coach Marietta Snyder appreciates Lechtenberg’s leadership. “She’s a total team player and an awesome leader,” Snyder said. “She practices hard.”

Kyler Larsen

Meadowdale High School

The senior standout helped jump start the offense by scoring the game’s first three touchdowns as the Mavericks went on to defeat district rival Lynnwood 42-7 in a Western Conference 3A football game Oct. 21 at Edmonds Stadium. Larsen scored on a 25-yard run midway through the first quarter and then caught a 62-yard pass fromquarterback Brian Marty with 17 seconds left in the quarter. Larsen then scored on a 55-yard run with less than a minute gone in the second quarter. He finished with 80 yards on the ground on only three carries. “Kyler scoring those TDs was big,” Meadowdale coach Mark Stewart said.
