PUYALLUP — It wasn’t always pretty, but Lake Stevens took care of business Tuesday in a cold and rainy 4A girls soccrer state tournament game at Sparks Stadium.
The Vikings shut down Puyallup, scored the lone goal of the contest and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Sophomore forward Brooke Pahukoa notched the goal, scoring in the 54th minute and giving keeper Kiaya Paulsen all the support she would need.
Standing about 18 yards out, Pahukoa delivered a powerful volley after receiving a flick pass from teammate Ciara Carter.
The Vikings (13-6 overall) dominated both halves, controlling the time of possession almost two to one. Yet, despite their opportunities, Pahukoa’s shot midway through the second half was all they had to show for it.
“It was a real team effort, the girls played solid defense,” said Lake Stevens head coach Andy Knutson.
