DUVALL — Archbishop Murphy goalkeeper Anna Whitehouse made a save on Cedarcrest’s fifth penalty kick try in a shootout and Shelby Koch followed with a successful attempt, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 win in a 2A District 1 winner-to-state semifinal girls soccer playoff game Tuesday at Cedarcrest H.S.
Murphy (14-4) won the shootout 4-3. The Wildcats play for the district championship at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sultan.
Cedarcrest (15-2) plays a winner-to-state, loser-out consolation semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sultan.
The two teams split their regular season meetings.
“I’m very proud our girls,” Murphy coach Shannon Murray said. “We’ve had some struggles in penalty-kick games this season. We finally got one to bounce our way.”
Murray said Whitehouse also made a crucial save and the end of the second overtime to send the game to the shootout.
